Casino Night

So last night Mark and I went to the Chinook Winds Casino. It was the first time I had ever been to a casino to gamble. We wandered around for a little bit, checking out what they had. I cant remember the names, but they had the one with the wheel, the one with the squares all over the board, some sort of three card poker, one that I had never heard of that had a girl's name in the title..and black jack. Thats what we played. Ive played black jack before, but always in my parents house with family and no money. This time my money was on it, so I wanted to know more before we started betting. So we watched for a little bit, Mark explained some basics of how it works in a casino, how betting and insurance works and the like. Then we sat down and he played for a while, and I watched. Finally I got to the point where I felt I could play. I gave the dealer my $20 and she gave me 4 plastic chips in return. It was a lot of fun actually. The hardest part for me was that they go so fast, and if anyone knows me at all, they know that math is not my strongest subject...and thats an understatement. I had a hard time adding the cards up as they came out, especially if there were 4 or 5 low cards. A couple of people came and sat and played with us for a while, and we just kept on. Chatted with the dealer, who was romanian. Then they switched, and a guy from Coos Bay was dealing for the end. He was a little chattier than the first dealer. That was hard for me too, cause I love to chat with people, but there was no way that I could chat with the dealer and add up my cards. I felt bad for not being able to chat too...how silly. Anyway, abou 10-15 min later Mark and I cashed out, I had more than doubled my money, and I think he almost tripled his!! It was fun though. We sat and people watched and talked for a little bit before heading back to good 'ol Corvallis. It was so beautiful along the coast, I REALLY wanted to go to the beach while we were there, but it was soooo cold, got down to 21 on the drive home.
Oh yeah, while were sitting at the table, we heard a guy talk to the dealer at the table next to us, and we both recognized the voice and turned to look to see who it was, and sure enough, it was a Ruby Tuesday manager from McMinville who has been coming down to Corvallis to manage lately (cause we are short managers), pretty random seeing him.

Where does time go?

I cant beleive it has been so long since I have updated this!! What a slacker I am!! Ok, short version of everything since then...classes ended, I went to Florida for 10 days to visit my Grandma, and Uncle on Sanibel island and then my other Aunt and Uncle up in Largo. It was so much fun, and a great break from everything...when I got back to Corvallis, I hit the ground running...working, moving and preparing for this term. I live in a great apartment now, very close to both of my jobs, and only a few minutes from campus. I love my roommate and the house, its been such a great place to live!!! I also got my fair share of partying in during the break...had an amazing new years, went to a couple of parties that night with great friends. Then classes started. Enough said. No more party, no more free time...oh well...my class load is okay...nuthing thats really any fun, except Abnormal Psychology, its pretty interesting. Been working A LOT lately, went two weeks straight at Ruby's, which was my own doing, but I didnt mind, and the paycheck/tips make it worthwhile. Still been going to poker, and been kicking ass...its great. Couple of weeks ago came in second out of 18 people, was doing really good for a long time, big chip lead. Last week was in a good lead again, but I came in secone again (maybe third...dont quite remember) This last week was 4 out of 20, there were soooo many ppl there, I rememeber back in october there were 6 of us around a small coffee table, now there is an actual poker table also, its packed. Its rough on monday though, when I have class at 9 (its one I cant skip too!!! No Good...lol) this past sunday night I only got 2.5 hours of sleep, went to bed at 5 and had to be up at 730, but I survived...I figure if I only do it one night a week...its not too bad...haha
I went and saw Matt yesterday, first time in waaaayyy too long, it was a blast, as usual!!! We went a McMeniman's, had burgers, beer and fries and played pool. Couple hours (and a couple pitchers of beer) later, we walked to an amazing restaurant for dessert (I cant remember the name right now). I had a peanut butter mousse thing, Matt had a Baked Alaska, and we shared a glass of port wine and pear brandy. Well...were supposed to share, but the brandy was too much for me, so he drank that and I drank the wine. It was just so much fun...what a great way to escape from life for an evening!! Thanks Matt.
Im off now, have a statistics and psychology midterm tomorrow, and a spanish paper to write!! Yikes!! Good thing im not working tonight!!

Biker Babe?

Its official...I know how to safely ride a motorcycle. Sort of. Hmmm...so I took a motorcycle safety course over the weekend. It was a lot of fun...and I really did learn how to ride a motorcycle. Ill admit, before this class I was a little aprehensive of motorcycles, they are so dangerous and go so fast...but now that I know more, they are not so bad. We also did a lot of riding, I think I did a total of 30-something miles! all by myself on a bike!! It was fun, we had several different exercises that we did that were meant to gain our confidence and comfort on the bike, and they worked!!
Hmm...lets see...what else is new? I know...I finally have a CD player in my car now!! YAY!!! Kenny just bought one a few months ago for his car, but recently decided that he wanted to upgrade, so he sold me his old/new one for a very good deal! I love it! I missed being able to play CD's so much. I also bought speakers from him, so I actually have a decent stereo in my car now. Oh yeah...I dont have my Toyota anymore, several months ago I bought a 1993 Ford Explorer. I know...the "exploder", but it was only $1,500 and its so much better for me than my car was. Its a manual, V6 with push-button four-wheel drive, I love it. Ill admit its not my ideal vehicle, that would be a Toyota 4Runner, but its big and much more functional than the old Toyota. Its an SUV, which is all I care about right now. And it has a new stereo system that I am so very jazzed about.
I played a small game of poker Sunday night. There were only a few of us this time, a total of 7. I did pretty good though, I came out 3rd!! Which means I got my $5 buy-in back!! Thats the best I have ever done playing poker with these guys, I was (and still am) pretty proud of myself. Im getting better at Texas Hold'em...you guys better watch out!! lol

Thats right, I did it

I got a new computer!!! I cant even put into words the excitement that I feel about this decision!! It is an Apple PowerBook G4, which really means nothing...its got 80GB of hard drive, 512 RAM, a CD/DVD Burner, its small and light and wonderful!! I took my computer with me to school today for the first time in years, its great. Im selling my old one to Kenny...which works out great for me, cause I dont have to put any effort into selling it.
I got a great deal on it too...Mac just came out with a new version of the PowerBook, so the bookstore on campus is selling the old version really cheap, and the upgrades are not anything I really need. The "old" version of the PowerBook that I bought is still better than the current version of the iBook. When I was looking at them in the store, I really liked the PowerBook better than the iBook, but just couldnt justify spending the extra money on it, but the "old" version I ended up buying was actually cheaper than the iBook!! Soooo great for me!!
There is a little bit of a learning curve though, it doesnt work quite the same as my Compaq did...but I was able to buy a program with microsoft word, excel, power point and a couple of others that are made for macs so I dont have to totally relearn all of that.
I wish I could remember how to put pictures on these things so I could put up a picture of my new computer!!

One man's trash is another man's treasure

I was talking to Matt this morning, and he was saying how I never update my blog...which is true...because I feel like there is never anything going on in my life...yet I always seem to be busy!! I dont quite know how that works out. Lets see what I have done in the last few days...
Sunday I opened the Beanery at 730, and worked until 230...then I grabbed something to eat (at Taco Bell of all places - cause I was going to Boden's [aka chris] and Kenny wanted some so that is where I went) and did some homework/studying while I ate. At 4 Tara (Chris' girlfriend) took me to work at Ruby's. She took me because I left my car at Boden's so Kenny could put in the speakers and deck I bought from him. I called him when I was done at work and he came and picke me up...in my car with the fabulous new speakers!! The deck didnt get in yet because it got too dark. Okay, then back to Boden's for more homework and of course at midnight there was the now typical Poker With the Boys! It has become my Sunday evening routine to spend three hours playing poker with at least seven males, if not more. There were a lot there this last time...we had two tables of six (I think). Jessica (my girlfriend who I work with at the Beanery) came this time too...we got a little tipsy together beforehand...and had quite a lot of fun during!! I crashed at about 320 (yes mom, 320 in the morning, but its only once a week).
Monday...hm...up at 8 to work out before class, class 10-11, bouldering 11-12, class 12-2, back to Boden's at 2 so I could study and hang out ( I think I ate something in there too...not quite sure though), then class again 5-6 and work at Ruby's 6-8, back to Boden's to hang out with Kenny a bit...what did we do? I dont remember, I know we ran around Corvallis some, then got ColdStone...hm...oh yeah...we went to my house to get my computer because I had bought a new one and he wanted to buy mine...we also picked up Dahli. Back at Boden's...studying. Boden, Kenny, Rick (Boden's roommate) and I played a quick game of poker (im getting pretty good!!) before bedtime. Dahli and I slept at their house.
Tuesday, got up, Dahli and I ran, I showered, then got my new computer up and running and loaded new stuff etc...homework/study, work from 230 to 630, then I was supposed to have class from 7 to 9 but I really wasnt feeling well...and it was a dance class so it would have been constant moving around and having to be "peppy" so I went and took a nap at Boden's, then stayed to watch Nip/Tuck from 10 to 11 before heading home and to bed.
It is now 950 am on wednesday, Ive been up since 6. Worked out, talked to Matt on the phone, did Spanish homework. I have class at 10, then bouldering at 11, then class 12 to 2, then im going to Boden's so Kenny can finish my deck, and so I can get more stuff off of my old computer and onto the new one.
So...what did we learn from this little exercise? Hmm...I work a lot...I study a lot...I go to class (some...lol). But also that I have great friends who I get to spend a lot of time with, be it studying, or playing games, or eating, or just being pointless. I still think that I dont do much in a day...but the days are still full...
I do know that I am lucky to be here, in Corvallis, at OSU, with my 30+ hours of work at week and 18 credits of classes, and not much sleep, and time with friends, and climbing and dancing...im lucky to be able to do it all, and to have the people in my life who support me to do it.
I hope you enjoy your treasure Matt...

Poker With The Boys

Sunday night...I had just finished a great weekend hanging out with Matt and working...I worked Friday night, then Saturday morning, then we went to the coast, and then to cantina Saturday night. He had to leave Sunday morning to be back in portland to meet a client and I had to work. After working at the beanery, I had a couple of hours off then I had to work at Ruby's. After Ruby's I got a call from Kenny (a new friend), said that he was going over to the house of a couple of guys that I know (Travis and Chris) to play poker and would I like to go. Hmmm...YES!!! It was so much fun! Travis, Chris, Kenny, Rick (travis and chris' other roommate), another Chris (who is the bouncer at the bar where Travis works - Cantina), a couple of other guys who work at Ruby's, and me. I have decided that I like hanging out with a bunch of guys!! We drank beer and played Texas Hold'em for quite a long time...I didnt even go out first!! I didnt win either, but I out-lasted three of them!! Go Me. I ended up staying at Chris and Travis', too many beers, its a good thing I practically live out of my car, I already had everything I needed for classes & working out Monday!!

Life? What life?

Ok...it has been forever since I got anything on here....but sadly enough...theres not much new. Classes started = life as I knew it is over. 18 credits + two jobs will do that to you. So, I work at The Beanery 14 hrs a week...plus 16 (or more) hrs a week at Ruby Tuesday...thats 30+ hrs week of working...and I have my classes. Im not really taking 18 hard credits...only 15 of them are academic classes...the other 3 are dance. Salsa II, Ballroom II and West Coast Swing. Ive taken Salsa II and Ballroom II before...so they are pretty easy...all three of them are fun. The others are Physics, Chemistry, Medical Terminology (with Spanish Translations) and Spanish 411...the are not that hard...except Physics! I havent had math since December 2002 (thats almost three years!!) and Ive never been the best at it...so it makes physics hard for me. Its a good challenge though.
This weekend was relaxing though...Matt came down from Portland (I hadnt seen him in 17 days!!! - I think thats the longest stretch we've had apart) Friday night...though I was working. After I got off, I went home, and we just hung out before bedtime. Saturday I worked in the AM at the Beanery...then we headed to the coast to sit in his hottub. We also rented some movies and hung out with his mom & dad...we had some fresh crab that his dad brought home for dinner...it was good...then we came back here and headed out to Cantina. This morning I worked at the Beanery, now I have two hours off before going to work at Ruby's...Im trying to fit in as much homework/studying as possible into that time...but my brain started to get mushy...so im taking a break for this. I wish there was more to say that is more interesting...ill have to do something fun this week so I can write about it. Oh yeah...there is a fun thing that I did last week...I got my tongue pierced!! I love it...it didnt hurt at all...my tongue swelled up a little, but it didnt get in the way of eating or talking too much...its all healed now.

Thats, like, your opinion

Matt came down thursday night. We went to the library with Kait and Oahn, surprise surprise. Friday was spent doing...well...nothing of any real consequence. I didnt work, which was grrrreat! I did get a bit done around the house though...organized my dresser, which it desperately needed! Now I have a bunch of clothes to get rid of. Saturday I hung out in the morning, then worked. Saturday night was a blast!! There is a girl at work, Jessica, who I close with a lot, and she and I went out together saturday night. Oh my god did we have fun. We started with a drink at her place...I had discovered a new flavor of Absolut Vodka - Apeach, its soooo good with orange juice. So we had those. Then we went to cantina, where we promptly sat down at the bar and ordered two irish car bombs!! I had never had one before (which horrified Jess...which is why we had them in the first place). What it is is a glass of Guiness Stout beer, and then you have a shot of Bailey's Irish Creams and Irish Wiskey, which you drop into the Guiness just before chugging the whole thing!! Yay!! It was actually really good. So we sat and chatted for a while, then decided we wanted another drink, so we asked Travis (the bartender - who is also a friend of mine) to make us "something good"...and he did...and it was. I dont know what it was though. Well...we had enough in us at that point to get up and dance, though no one else had really decided to. Except this one guy, who is always there on Saturday nights (80's night!! Good times!!), so we hopped up on the mini stage and danced our hearts out with him. It got busier, we ran into some people I know, hung out outside, etc whatever...then decided it was time for another car bomb!! There were three of us that had them the second time around...its kinda fun actually...and very tasty. So at about 2 am Jess' boyfriend Tom (bless his heart for doing this) came and picked us up.
I woke up Sunday morning on Jess' couch (which was actually really comfy) with Saturday night's dancing and good times still rolling around in my head. No hangover though, I have yet to be hungover after one of my nights out (knock on wood) guess im just lucky that way...not to mention very well hydrated.

Sunday was fun...I worked in the morning...then headed to the coast. It was Marcia's (my step-mom) birthday, so I headed to their place for a little party. Tyler had organized a little sushi-making party, which was dinner also. It was a rather small, light dinner though, but that was all well and good since the dessert/birthday cake was an amazing carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Oh my god this cake was unbelievable!! Actually, I just remembered theres a piece in my fridge that I took home...im going to eat it when im done here. So we had cake, opened presents, hung out...then my dad and Marcia went to bed, and Tyler, Zach and I hung out at a friends house til about 130. It was pretty fun...it felt good to just hang out with my sibs, I dont get to see them that often.

Ok...time for carrot cake!
